

Hon. Donn Southern (Ret.) focuses his mediation practice in Memphis and the surrounding counties on disputes involving probate and family related issues. He retired as Probate Judge in Memphis from 1989 to 2006 handling all types of family and probate disputes. In 1994 he was selected as Outstanding Judge of the Year. He served as Presiding Judge for two terms. Prior to his judgeship he was in general civil practice. He has returned to practicing law and has been appointed to serve as Special Master and mediator by the Memphis judges since his retirement. He is a Rule 31 Supreme Court listed Civil Mediator.
Prior to taking the bench he served as president of the Memphis Bar Association and two terms each on the Board of Governors and House of Delegates for the Tennessee Bar Association. He received the Sam A. Myar, Jr. award for "outstanding service to the legal profession and the community."
At the University of Tennessee Law School, he graduated first in his class and was selected as a member of Order of the Coif. He served in the Army Reserves for twenty years, attaining the rank of Major.
He has been active in the Memphis community serving on the Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Dismas House and the Downtown Rotary Club. He was also chair of the Memphis-Shelby County Air Pollution Control Hearing Board.
He is married to Faye MacGregor Southern. They have two children. His daughter, Pamela, has a son named Parke. His son, Todd, has a daughter named Elisabeth. So they have all bases covered. Somehow he finds time to play tennis three times per week.
