Parenting Courses 

Parents must attend a four hour course, which addresses the development of their children, how the parents should treat each other during and after the divorce, how parents should exchange children from one residence to the next and other important information. The class should be completed within 90 days of filing of the divorce.  The classes cover the following topics:

• Feelings created by the divorce
• Characteristic reactions of the children
• Developmental stages and needs of children
• Communication techniques that work (Do’s and Don’ts)
• Coping skills for children
• Resources in the community

The seminar is based on a nationally known program that has been used in a number of other states. The presentation includes lecture, discussion, and videotapes. Participation in discussion is strictly voluntary. Each participant will be given a workbook to take home for reference, Divorcing couples may prefer to attend separate sessions.

The providers are listed below for Davidson and surrounding counties.   Each provider has their own website.  You can simply contact them directly for times and dates.  The cost is approximately $40 per person.  This fee can be waived upon request.
