Steve Heckle serves as a mediator, corporate advisor to The Mediation Group, and consultant.  He concentrates his mediation in the areas in which he became experienced during his employment at Cracker Barrel as Vice President and Dollar General as Senior Director.  While at Cracker Barrel he created a vision and strategy for risk management which led to a dramatic reduction in costs for workers' compensation and general liability matters. Steve has fostered effective efforts to resolve disputes filed against large companies and in resolving internal disputes.  He has served as the representative in hundreds of mediations across the country with excellent results.  Steve understands the nature of conflict that large companies face, its expense and disruption to the business.   

  As Director of Risk Management at Dollar General he set up an in-house adjusting staff to manage claims made against the company and created a captive insurance company to better manage the costs with improved cash flow.  Steve has resolved hundreds of claims personally and led teams that have resolved thousands of claims annually while also managing various aspects of litigation. 

 Steve began his career in risk and claim management as a claims adjuster with Safeco Insurance Company.   

 To enhance his management and conflict skills he attended and graduated from the Nashville School of Law in 2000.   He holds a Tennessee Law license.  He is a Supreme Court Rule 31 Listed Civil Mediator and a founding member of the Tennessee Association of Professional Mediators. 

 Steve was born and raised in Nashville and currently lives with his wife and four children in Brentwood.
