1Hon.  Lyle Reid  (Ret.) has served as a mediator and arbitrator since 2000.  He has handled such diverse issues as  medical malpractice, employment termination, building construction, family business and personal injury.  He is presently one of sixteen on the AAA list of mediators and arbitrators in Tennessee.  He has attended numerous courses on arbitration awards, commercial arbitration training, as well as fundamental issues in arbitration and mediation. 

Judge Reid was appointed to the Criminal Court of Appeals in 1987 and served on that panel until he was elected to the Tennessee Supreme Court in 1990 for a term of eight years.   From 1990-1994 he served as Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. In 1998 he retired from the bench.  During that time he served as President-Elect  of the Conference of Chief Justices and as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for State Courts.   He was awarded the American Judicative Award for Effective Administrative of Justice and the National Center for State Courts Distinguished Service Award.   He created the Futures Commission which among other proposals supported Alternative Dispute Resolution as a way to provide more access to the court process.   

 Following his retirement as Chief Justice in 1998, he was Vice President of Litigation at Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation and later was "Of Counsel" at Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, before returning to Brownsville and Covington to practice law with the Law Office of Houston Gordon.

Prior to being a Court of Appeals judge, he was Deputy Commissioner of Commerce and Insurance.  He served as Bank Director in Brownsville and as board member of a large health care corporation.  He served one year as General Sessions Judge of Haywood County, Assistant State Attorney General and as Haywood County Attorney for 22 years.    In addition to his law practice he has bought, owned and sold radio stations and print periodicals, and also engaged in farming operations.  

He graduated from the University of Tennessee Law School in 1957after receiving a B.S. degree from the Unversity of Tennessee.    He served as Chair of the House of Delegates of the Tennessee Bar Association.  He has been the speaker at various CLE seminars for lawyers and judges throughout his career. 

His hobbies include tennis, gardening, and  keeping up  with his grandchildren. 

He has a lovely wife, Elizabeth (Libba) who is active in the Brownsville community and conservation programs.
